2.310S Introduction
310S is a heat-resistant stainless steel mainly used in high-temperature environments. It is a type of austenitic stainless steel that contains especially large amounts of chromium and nickel.
It has higher corrosion resistance than SUS304, the most widely circulated stainless steel, and better heat resistance than SUS309S, a heat-resistant stainless steel.
However, its workability is inferior to SUS304 and SUS309S. Furthermore, because it contains a large amount of relatively expensive nickel, its price is approximately three to four times that of SUS304.
Another characteristic of SUS310S is that it is not magnetic. Austenitic steels are inherently not magnetic, but some grades can become magnetic when cold worked. However, because of its high nickel content, SUS310S does not become magnetic even when processed.
